Original Summary

My reply routine was embarrassing. Someone messages me on WhatsApp or LinkedIn, I know roughly what I want to say, but not how to say it. So I'd select their message, open ChatGPT, paste it, type "write a casual reply to this", copy the answer, switch back, paste, then fix it because it sounded like a customer support bot. About ten context switches for one "yeah, 6 works". So I built Volley, a small macOS menu-bar app. You select their message in any app, press ⌥R, and a little bar streams a reply in your voice. Enter pastes it where your cursor was. It never presses send. A few things I cared about: One reply, not five options. If it's off you nudge it: ⌥1 shorter, ⌥2 warmer, ⌥3 firmer, or just type "say no, suggest friday". It knows where you are. Lowercase and short on WhatsApp, two clean sentences on LinkedIn. It learns from the edits you make before sending, and you approve every change to your style. Everything stays on your Mac (local SQLite). The only thing that leaves is the prompt, sent to Claude, Gemini or OpenAI with your own API key. It's free. You bring your own API key, so you pay the provider directly for what you use. Heads up: it's not notarized yet, so the first launch needs System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. I'm also using it to learn Rust, and Claude Code wrote most of the code while I reviewed it. Happy to talk about how that went. https://getvolley.vercel.app Would love to hear where it gets your tone wrong. That's the part I'm still tuning. submitted by /u/sadyoras123 [link] [comments]
