Original Summary

Gleam is out on the App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6816759573 . It's an iPhone app that finds duplicate, blurry and expired-screenshot photos and lets you swipe through them. The category is crowded (Slidebox, Swipewipe and others are good), so here are the calls I made and why: No weekly subscription. A lot of photo cleaners sell weekly plans behind a free trial. I went with $4.99/month or $24.99/year, and the free version has every feature, capped at 150 photos a week. The paywall can't list a single feature a free user doesn't already have. No servers. All the analysis (duplicate detection, blur, reading screenshots) runs on the phone with Apple's Vision framework. That costs me nothing per user and means "your photos never leave your phone" is literally true. The privacy label is "Data Not Collected". No ads. An app that cleans clutter and then interrupts you with ads didn't make sense to me. Ad SDKs would also break the privacy label. A habit, not a one-off. A cleanup app is done the moment the backlog is gone, and so is the reason to keep it. Gleam frames it as two minutes a day against a camera roll that refills every week: a weekly goal with freezes (no daily streak guilt), a widget, a monthly recap. The Vision blur detection was harder than I expected. The standard trick (variance of the Laplacian) only catches out-of-focus photos, not motion blur, so I ended up measuring sharpness in four directions and taking the weakest one. Why I built it: my iPhone kept running out of space, and I didn't want to buy a bigger-storage model just to keep photos I'd never look at again. So I made the app I wanted instead. Happy to answer anything about building it, App Store review, or pricing. And I'd like feedback on the app itself. submitted by /u/dkingalon [link] [comments]
