Original Summary
I put a small panel in for my gate opener and the spot got way more shade than I thought. It barely kept up. That's why I made SunSleuth. You hold your phone up and sweep it across the sky. It marks where trees and roofs block the sun, then lays the sun path for summer, the equinox and winter over it. From that it estimates how much a panel would make there, or how much direct sun a garden bed gets. You can also add what you want to run, like a fridge or a wifi router, and it checks every month of the year against typical weather. The screenshot is that check on a test spot, not my yard. A full size fridge on a 400W panel fails all 12 months, which is the kind of thing I wish I knew before I bought anything. No install, it runs in the browser. Free for one spot. Pro is $1.99 a month for full year data, sizing and comparing spots. The sky scan works best in Chrome on Android right now. https://sunsleuth.com/app I'd really like honest feedback. Is the sweep confusing, where did you get stuck, and would you trust the numbers submitted by /u/SailorSehi [link] [comments]
