Original Summary
Hey r/SideProject , My friends and I kept running into the same problem when buying cameras. You pick a body or lens, then spend hours checking retailers, new vs used, different countries, and trying to line up specs across a dozen tabs. So I started building CamCompare : camcompare.vercel.app What it does right now Side-by-side spec comparison for cameras and lenses New and used prices from multiple retailers, sorted cheapest first Separate markets for the US, UK, EU, Australia and Singapore How it's built Next.js on Vercel No database: a GitHub Action runs once a day, pulls prices from retailer catalogues, matches them to products and commits the data to the repo. That commit triggers a fresh static build. Free to use, monetised through affiliate links (disclosed on the site). Affiliate status never changes the price order. This is the third or fourth price-comparison site I've built (the others are for trading card games), so the pipeline is fairly solid. Cameras are new territory for me, though, and I'd love honest input on: First impression: is it clear in 5 seconds what the site does and why you'd use it? Value: would you use this instead of just checking B&H, MPB or eBay directly? What would tip you over? Features: price history, price-drop alerts, used-vs-new comparisons, lens compatibility... what matters most, and what's a waste of time? Trust: anything that makes it feel sketchy or affiliate-spammy? Growth: for a niche like this, would you focus on SEO (spec/comparison pages), Reddit and photography communities, or something else? It's still early and rough in places, so harsh feedback is very welcome. Thanks! submitted by /u/Specificx [link] [comments]
