Original Summary

I moved to a new country last year and noticed that i started wasting a concerning amount of time on my phone...6 hours, 8 hours, sometimes 10 hours... So I decided to do something about it. I installed a screen time app that was blocking the time-sucking apps: - no instagram - no tiktok So did my screen time go down? NO! Because I found myself: - watching Youtube Shorts for 2 hours - checking Reddit daily - checking Instagram from my browser... I shouldn't block the browser, right? RIGHT?? That's when I realised that the only thing for this to stop is to have a Phone time budget , not just app time budget. So after a few weeks I built PhoneStop - a Screen Time Limit app that: - SETS me a daily budget for all phone usage - ROASTS me every 10 minutes or whenever i pass a threshold (e.g. 3 hours) - STOPS me when I reached the budget - shows me Time's up screen Best thing is - IT WORKS! The combination of 3 things above actually managed to bring my phone usage from 6+ hours to 3h. I still go overboard sometimes but it's bc I'm working on my phone, and i have a function to pause the timer when I really need my phone. The app is 100% free , you don't need an account and all the history is stored locally. It's my the 1st app that I published 🥹 I built it with Flutter and some Kotlin on Android and Swift on iOS, native mainly to manage the app not being killed by OS and to build widgets. Here are the links to try it: Android , iOS (waitlist, app coming soon) Would appreciate you guys trying it and sharing your thoughts! My plan is to get more users, hear what they like/dislike and build it into the best app possible. I also created https://www.reddit.com/r/phonestop/ in case you want to join! And if you are reading it from your phone and you've been at it for >3 hours - go touch some grass bro! 🟢 Or do some pushups 😄 submitted by /u/ruslanshchuchkin [link] [comments]
