Original Summary
I think a lot of SaaS founders are seriously undercharging, and I'm not sure it's because their products are cheap. I think they're scared of finding out what customers actually think the product is worth. You see products charging $19 or $29/month even when they save a company hours every week, replace a manual process, or directly contribute to revenue. Maybe we're too focused on what it costs us to build something instead of what it's actually worth to the customer. AI has made this even weirder psychologically. A founder can build something in a fraction of the time using Claude, Cursor, GPT, whatever, and then feel like they haven't “worked hard enough” to charge $100 or $200. I don't really buy that. If the idea is original, the product solves a real problem, and the customer gets significant value from it, why should they care whether it took you six months and ten developers or three weeks with AI? They're paying for the solution, not how much you suffered building it. And now AI can make a product and save someone 30 hours instead of 5. Should you charge less because your own development costs went down, or more because the customer is getting more value? I honestly think a lot of founders are still pricing based on effort, competitor pricing, and insecurity rather than the economics of the problem they're solving. Would you charge $200/month for something that genuinely saves a business $2,000/month, even if you built most of it with AI? submitted by /u/rocketeams [link] [comments]
