Original Summary
I've got a couple of hundred records and two problems: catalogue apps are basically spreadsheets, and I spend too long deciding what to play. So I built ONWAX: https://onwax.io What it does: - Lets you document you collection into a point cloud. Every record is a point, and you can group them by mood, genre, artist or year, then tap a group to dive into just those records. - "Drop the needle" picks something from your own shelf to suit the time of day, the season and the weather. - Friends, wishlists, a side-by-side comparison of two collections, and households, so people who live together see their records as one collection. - Import from a few different places. Discogs, a spreadsheet, a barcode scan or just search. How it's built: ONWAX stemmed from a gripe I had with cataloguing my record collection on a spreadsheet. I'm a creative director/creative technologist by trade so the long lists and minimal visuals of cataloguing weren't really doing it for me so I design and directed a new approach then used Claude to bring it all to life in code. From there, it's snowballed into ONWAX and I thought some other people might like to use it too! Please note: It's not affiliated with any company - it's all my own work for now and i'm not making money off it... this was soley a personal side project! A few things I learned along the way: - With AI these days it's insane how quickly you can create what you've got on your mind. This was just an idea a week ago and now it's ready to be tested by a few people - You're always going to come up with more ideas and never quite feel ready to post something like this out of fear people will hate it - The hardest part was making it still feel good with a big collection. It looked great with 100 records and turned into a mess at 2,000, so a lot of the work has gone into keeping it readable. I'm sure there's more to do there. It's free, no ads. You can explore an example collection without signing up. I made it for my own shelf, but I'd love people to try it and help shape it into something bigger! submitted by /u/msvart [link] [comments]
