Original Summary
I'm Marc Scully, and I made Keylark. It's just gone into the Chrome Web Store, and I'm looking for a few people to try it and tell me honestly what gets in the way. What it does: you open a song in a Chrome tab, plug in a MIDI keyboard (or use your computer's keys A to K) and press keys in time. You keep the rhythm; Keylark picks the notes, from the chords it hears in the song. Why I made it: I wanted people with no access to learning to enjoy playing along with their favourite songs, and a handy tool for a gigging musician who didn't have time to prepare for a song. What was tricky to build: Chrome mutes a tab while an extension captures its sound, so the side panel plays the song back itself. And the first time through a song it follows the chords by ear, which is weakest just after a change. So it learns the song as it plays, and the second time through it plays from what it learned the first time. Where it isn't sure of a chord, it plays fewer notes. What I'd like to hear: what stopped you in the first minute, and how the install warning feels ("read and change all your data on all websites", which Chrome shows for any extension that can hear a tab). What you'd get: a free year. Comment or message me and I'll send you a key privately. If you ever review it, please say you had it free. You need Chrome or Edge on a computer. Wired headphones or speakers are best, because Bluetooth adds a delay. Nothing you play or hear leaves your computer. The free part plays by ear on any song, with the full chords on 3 songs of your choice. After that it's €45 a year or €6.99 a month (£39 or £5.99 in the UK).
