Original Summary
I've been asking owners who sell and support over WhatsApp how much of their day goes to answering the same handful of questions. I assumed the answer was "most of it" and that the fix was something that writes the replies for them. Three people, from three different angles, told me I was measuring the wrong thing. One of them implements this stuff for a living and put it like this: typing the message takes ten seconds, hunting down the facts takes five minutes. A shop owner said the volume isn't where the money is. The chats that matter are the ones where someone is about to buy, and there he doesn't want an AI at all, he wants to be fast. And twice now the thing I'd be competing with turned out to be free and already installed: saved replies in WhatsApp Business, and the chatbot that came with Shopify. The part I didn't expect: nobody objected to software understanding their business. What they rejected was it learning facts from old chats, because the history is full of one-off favours. Someone's line was that it would gladly promise last year's custom pricing to a brand new lead. Two people who don't know each other described the same fix: prices and stock always pulled from a system and never guessed, tone and common questions learned from the history but shown to the owner as something they approve first. So for people here who have built or sold in this space: Is the lookup the actual product and the writing just the wrapper? That's where my own data is pointing and I'd like to be talked out of it. Has approve-before-send ever survived real use, or does everyone flip it to autopilot after two weeks and then get burned once? When the lookup comes back empty, what should it do: answer anyway, or stop and hand it to a person? No link, nothing to sell. I'd rather find out now that the interesting problem is a boring database problem. submitted by /u/flavia-f [link] [comments]
