Original Summary

echo-focus is a Mac menubar app with an AI character that stays in the background while you work. It senses what you're actually doing — when you've been deep in work, when you've drifted off to YouTube, when you've been idle too long, and checks in accordingly. It has a simple focus session timer, but the character is the main thing. It notices, and it comes to you. Core features: - Passive sensing (idle detection, distraction app detection) - A character you can name, give an avatar and a personality. It talks to you about your session, not at you - Focus sessions with start/stop flow - Quick reply options — no free-form chat, just responses to what the character says - Bring your own API key (Anthropic or OpenAI) Privacy note: - All sensing data stays local and temporary — nothing is stored permanently, nothing leaves your machine. The only external calls are to your own API key when the character responds. This is a free beta — I'd love to hear what works, what's weird, and what's missing. If you're interested in trying it out, DL is in the comments. Heads up: no notarization yet, you'll need to allow it manually in System Settings → Privacy & Security. Instructions included in the download. submitted by /u/First_Recording2559 [link] [comments]
