Original Summary
I built Wisp while traveling around South America, where I was using WhatsApp to book reservations and chat with locals. I kept screenshotting messages, putting them into ChatGPT, and asking it to translate my replies. It worked, but switching back and forth made conversations slow and awkward. Wisp puts that translation right inside your WhatsApp chats. It's a free desktop app that translates incoming messages, lets you preview translated replies before sending, and transcribes and translates voice notes. One thing I really like is being able to choose the language, regional style, and tone, like casual Chilean Spanish. You can also give ChatGPT extra instructions for individual chats, keep it relaxed with a friend, more polite when booking a reservation, or whatever fits the person you’re talking to. It uses Whisper locally for voice transcription and your existing ChatGPT subscription for translation. No API key or separate API billing to set up. Your usual ChatGPT usage limits apply. GitHub ... a star would be appreciated if you find it useful :D Download the latest release The downloads aren’t signed yet, so MacOS or Windows may show a security warning. You can also build from source using the instructions in the repo. submitted by /u/oz_planetbyte [link] [comments]
