Original Summary
For a long time I used Reporter, an iPhone app that asked a few questions at random moments during the day: where are you, who are you with, what are you doing. After a few months the answers showed me things about my days I'd never have written down. It hasn't been updated since 2019. The habit trackers I tried instead all ran on streaks, and a broken streak mostly made me quit. So I built ObserMe, and it's now waiting on App Store review. How it works: You write your own questions and choose how each is asked: a fixed time for habits ("Did you read?"), or a few random pings a day, inside hours you choose, for things like mood and energy. Answers are yes or no, a number, a 1–5 scale, one choice, or a few tags. Most can be given straight from the notification in a few seconds. Today shows the last seven days as a small table. Reports cover any week or month, and the whole year fits on one page. What's deliberately missing: streaks, badges, points, an AI coach, ads, and analytics in the app. It will be free on iPhone and iPad. It does need an account (email and password). Since it isn't out yet, this is the best time for me to change things. I'd really like your take on any of these: What would you track with it? The first two or three questions you'd set up tell me more than anything else. How many random check-ins a day would feel useful before they turn into noise? Is a required account a dealbreaker for an app like this? Looking at the screenshots, is anything unclear or missing? If you've tried habit or mood trackers and stopped, what made you stop? Honest criticism is more useful to me than encouragement. I'll read and answer every comment.
