Hey r/SideProject ! Two months ago I posted my receipt scanner here under its old name, Snap Expense. Since then it got a new name, Clerkly , and this week I shipped 4.0, the biggest update since I launched it. Quick refresher on why it exists: I was sick of messy paper receipt drawers, missing tax write-offs, and bloated finance apps that force you to create an account and hand over your bank login. Clerkly works on paper receipts, invoices, any piece of paper with a total and items listed — and turns them into organized, searchable expense records. What's new in 4.0: Receipt Intelligence: Spending insights, not just storage: category breakdowns, merchant trends, and spending over time — plus short Smart Takeaways that show you where the money actually goes. Line-item search: search by item ("batteries"), not just by store. Tax Shield (estimated): surfaces potential write-offs for freelancers and small businesses. Estimates only — not tax advice. HSA Medical Vault + Shoebox: medical receipts stay organized, with an estimate of what holding onto them could be worth down the road. Scan from anywhere: start a scan from Siri, the Action Button, Control Center, or the Lock Screen — plus Share Sheet imports for digital receipts, PDFs, and invoices from Mail, Files, or Photos. Reports: CSV and Executive PDF exports you can hand to an accountant. Privacy: the point of the whole app: Zero accounts, zero logins, zero trackers. I run no servers. Your receipts live on your device and your personal iCloud. I never see or store your data. The OCR step itself runs through a cloud OCR service, because on-device OCR still isn't reliable on crumpled, faded thermal paper. The image is processed, the text comes back to your phone, and that's the end of it on my side.
