Original Summary
I see a new AI file manager launching almost every day. You upload a messy PDF, an LLM tags it, and it goes in a smart folder somewhere. We wanted to build one too, but we realized pretty quickly that it's a total race to the bottom. Google Workspace and Apple are just going to bake this exact feature natively into their systems by next year anyway. So we scrapped the horizontal approach and pivoted to something hyper-vertical. We decided to focus strictly on homeowners. Instead of building a tool to organize an HVAC receipt, our app (Lucidi) just uses the receipt to extract the data. For us, the file isn't the point. What matters is using that data to build a digital profile for that specific water heater, A/C unit, etc and logging the contractor who installed it, and setting an automated alert to ping the user before the warranty expires. Basically, the file is just the training data. The actual product is tracking the physical thing in the real world. If anyone else is building with LLMs right now, I highly recommend looking at vertical workflows instead of horizontal wrappers. It feels like the only real way to build a moat against the big native integrations. Curious if anyone else here has had to pivot their positioning away from the AI wrapper label recently? submitted by /u/WrongdoerDry2587 [link] [comments]
