Original Summary
Some background: I’m a student doing ML research, and I’ve had papers at top AI conferences (ICML, etc.). I’ve wanted to start my own thing for a while, whether that’s an app, a startup, or anything in between. I’ve built a lot of small projects: study tools, apps, games, and some AI side projects. What I have trouble doing is finding an idea that's worth sticking to it. The other problem is people. Everyone says you need a team and that solo founders have it rough. But nobody around me wants to do this kind of thing, so I don’t have anyone to build with. So I have three questions: Ideas: How did you find yours? If you had a technical background (especially AI), what problems would you go after right now? Specific ideas are welcome too. Solo vs. team: Is going solo actually that bad, especially now that AI tools let one person do a lot more? If I should find a cofounder, where do people meet them outside their own circle? Marketing: This is my weakest area. Everyone says to build in public or post short-form content, but I’m bad on camera. Has anyone grown a product without being the face of it? Faceless content, SEO, communities, cold outreach, whatever worked for you. Or is getting comfortable on camera just something I have to do? I’d appreciate any advice, especially from people who started solo or came from a technical background. submitted by /u/Ok-Tomato4990 [link] [comments]
