Original Summary

Hey all. I knew some HTML/CSS and almost no JavaScript, and I challenged myself to ship a working v1 of something in under a week. I used AI as my coding partner and kept the scope small. The result is Purge, a Chrome extension (Manifest V3) that blocks sites you're trying to quit and, instead of just showing a "blocked" page, walks you through a short urge reset: pick your trigger, rate the urge, 10 second pause, leave the room, choose something else to do, then re-rate the urge so you can see if it dropped. What's in it: - Domain blocking via webNavigation (subdomains included), editable list plus a starter list - Dashboard: streak, success rate, most common trigger, riskiest time of day, which activity lowers the urge most - Strict mode that makes you type a phrase before removing a site - Everything local in chrome.storage. No account, no server, no analytics - Plain HTML/CSS/JS, no build step, only two permissions Known limits: it doesn't run in Incognito unless you allow it, and you can always just disable it. It's a speed bump, not a lock. I'm especially curious about: Anything in the code a more experienced dev would do differently Features you'd add. A cooldown before removing a site is on my list Repo: https://github.com/yesimfarida/purge Thanks for reading, and be honest, I can take it. submitted by /u/yesimfarida [link] [comments]
