Original Summary

I'm exploring whether double-tapping different spots beside a MacBook could be a useful way to start a timer or open a quick note. I've customised a local prototype from the open-source Holo project and built an interface showing four desk areas. I haven't established that the proposed double-tap workflows work reliably. I'm testing whether the interaction is useful before spending more time on features. It uses the built-in microphone for desk-tap detection. Calibration and accidental triggers are obvious things to resolve. The part I'm curious about is whether having separate places on the desk feels useful compared with keyboard shortcuts or tapping the laptop itself. If you use a MacBook at a desk, what would you assign to a tap? How do you do that task now, and what would put you off this approach? Prototype UI: View the four desk-tap areas around the MacBook . This shows the existing single-tap setup preview; the proposed double-tap workflows remain unvalidated. submitted by /u/jiplet [link] [comments]
