Original Summary
I kept wanting small, custom models for my own tasks without renting GPUs or sending my data anywhere. So I built streamweights: give it a CSV of examples (input and the output you want), and it trains a small model on your own Mac or Linux machine. It's designed to be honest with you. Every build is compared against the untrained model and a dead-simple baseline. On one test, sorting messages into categories, the simple baseline won, and the tool said so. On another, pulling structured data out of text, the custom model went from 0% to 50% of records fully correct. That's the whole point: find out whether you actually need a custom model. It also does a few slightly wild things: uses a huge model as a teacher or judge, even one bigger than your RAM (a 141 GB model runs on my 48 GB MacBook, slowly but it runs) pauses training and picks it up on another (not necessarily similar) machine exports to Ollama Still early: tested on Mac and Linux with small models, NVIDIA untested. What would you want to train a model for? And where did the README lose you? https://github.com/streamweights/streamweights submitted by /u/cloudyuser1480 [link] [comments]
