Original Summary

Hi! I'm building Earshot and it’s not released yet but I would like to ask you to test this application (I'm looking for a few households to test it for two weeks) What it does Earshot turns a spare Android/iPhone into a listener for your home. Leave it plugged in where the sound happens. When it hears one of the sounds you picked, everyone in your household gets an alert on their own phone, wherever they are. Sounds to start with: smoke alarm, doorbell, dog barking, baby crying, glass breaking, knocking, car alarm, cat meowing, running water, microwave beep. You can also describe your own in a few words. If the detector phone goes offline (unplugged, no Wi-Fi), you're told about that too. Privacy The sound is analysed on the old phone itself. No audio, recording or anything made from it ever leaves that phone. The server only learns which sound was heard, when, and how sure the detector was. No ads, no tracking, no analytics. What you need You need a pair of phones (iPhone or Android) What I'd ask of you About 20 minutes to set up: install from Google Play/TestFlight, create an account, pair the old phone Leave it running for two weeks Now and then, play a test sound near it (a smoke alarm clip from YouTube works) Tell me what happened: missed sounds, false alarms, anything confusing. There's a short survey at the end. How to join Android: Join the Google Group: https://groups.google.com/g/earshot-test Opt-in on the Web (Click "Become a Tester"): Earshot Alerts (user app): https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.earshot.user Earshot Detector (detector app): https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.earshot.detector Download on Google Play (Android): Earshot Detector: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.earshot.detector Earshot Alerts: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.earshot.user iPhone: Earshot Alerts (user app): https://testflight.apple.com/join/EYbnbNy1 Earshot Detector (detector app): https://testflight.apple.com/join/9gAVK2Ja One important note: Earshot is an extra pair of ears, not a fire alarm. It can miss a sound, and a phone can lose power. Keep your smoke alarms. Happy to answer anything in the comments! submitted by /u/SpiritedTrip [link] [comments]
