Original Summary
I’ve spent 20 years in sales. I thought I understood how to bring best product to market. Then I built my own iPhone app. 😂 No coding background. The whole thing started with a conversation with friends about Rolex and Hermes… If you’re unfamiliar with that world, buying one isn’t always as simple as walking into a store. I started taking notes to understand the process. Those notes turned into a spreadsheet. And eventually, with a lot of AI, jp and way to many hours that spreadsheet became an iPhone app. MyQuotaBag. It’s a private collection journal for luxury handbag enthusiasts. It helps people organize their purchases, boutique visits, wishlists and collections, without having to piece everything together from notes and spreadsheets. After countless evenings of building, testing, fixing bugs and navigating App Store reviews, it’s now live. And here’s the encouraging part: we have real users, and the feedback has been incredibly positive. That’s what keeps me motivated. But I learned something I really didn’t expect. Building something people enjoy and getting it in front of the right people are two completely different challenges. Luxury collectors are a niche audience. Privacy matters. Trust matters. And many of the communities where these people spend time understandably don’t welcome promotion. So I’m trying to figure out how to grow without becoming the guy who shows up everywhere asking people to download his app lol I’ve started experimenting with educational content SOE… Some things are promising. Others are teaching me patience. I’m curious about two things from founders who’ve been through this: 1. What actually got you your first 100 users? 2. What changed between 100 and 1,000? Was it one breakthrough, or just months of doing the right small things consistently? Especially interested in anyone building for a small, trust-driven community. And if you’ve tried something that completely failed, I’d love to hear that too. I’m happy to share what I learned building an iPhone app with AI and no coding experience. There were definitely a few painful lessons along the way. For anyone curious about what came out of that spreadsheet: https://myquotabag.com Would love to hear your stories!
