https://reddit.com/link/1x4dl1q/video/ji6xibg8n3vh1/player Back in 2007, I had an idea. What if there was a website where anyone, anywhere in the world, could record 15 seconds of themselves and share that moment with everyone? Not just upload a video and hope somebody finds it. I mean one global stream. Everyone watching the same thing, at the same time. One person gets their 15 seconds, then it's someone else's turn. I called it Shwiggle. In November 2008, I got laid off from my job. Instead of sitting around wondering what to do next, I figured maybe this was my chance to actually build the thing. I registered the domain, rented a server, hired a developer, and spent about $3,000 of my own money trying to make it happen. Unfortunately, it didn't. Life got in the way. Technology wasn't quite where it needed to be, and I didn't have the money or resources to keep going. Eventually, Shwiggle disappeared. But the idea never really left me. Over the years, I watched the internet change. YouTube grew, Vine came and went, TikTok exploded, and short videos became something pretty much everyone was comfortable making. And every once in a while, I'd think about Shwiggle. What if I'd kept going? What if I'd tried again? Well, nearly 20 years later, I finally did. I built Nowzies. 🌎 https://nowzies.com Everybody gets a moment. Now, I'm not going to pretend I've built the next big thing. I haven't. I'm one guy working on something I believe in, trying to figure things out as I go. The website is live. It works. I'm still improving things, fixing bugs, adding features, and trying to get people interested. And that's probably the hardest part. Building something is one thing. Getting people to actually show up and use it? That's a whole different challenge. I've put a lot of my own time, energy, and money into bringing this idea back. Some days I wonder if I'm crazy for trying again after all these years. But then I remember why I wanted to build it in the first place. I think there's something pretty cool about connecting complete strangers around the world, even if it's only for 15 seconds. And I'd really love to see this thing come to life. https://nowzies.com If you've made it this far, thanks for reading. Seriously. And if you have a few minutes, I'd love to know what you think. Would you watch a global stream where everyone gets 15 seconds? What would make you want to participate? Because I'd really like to make this work. Shwiggle was the idea. Nowzies is the second chance. Founding contributor status: Permanent recognition as an early supporter. submitted by /u/rustybruce [link] [comments]
