So apparently, if you have a new personal Google Play developer account, you need 12 testers for 14 days before you can even apply to publish your app 🤯 Meanwhile, AI has reached the point where you can build an actual Android app in 15 minutes while sitting on the toilet 😂 I've been experimenting with this myself. I built an AI-powered Android app builder called PocketBuilder that runs directly on your phone. No PC, no Android Studio, just describe what you want and you get a real Android APP / APK. And because publishing everything on Google Play would be a nightmare, I added a little app store too. It's getting a bit ridiculous what you can build now. Most of them are me trying to see what you can do so don't expect fully developed apps. And then there are the slightly naughty apps. 😈 I've also built things like an automatic SMS responder, an SMS message exporter, and a screen recorder with object detection. The kind of niche utilities you might actually want, but struggle to find on Google Play because of its restrictions. Nothing particularly evil, just apps that do things Google doesn't always approve of. And that's another reason I'm starting to wonder if independent app stores might make a comeback. At this rate, I'll be competing with Google Play by Christmas. They have about 2 million apps. I have 13. Watch out, Google. 😂 But seriously, here's my question: If AI makes creating apps almost trivial with all these AI tools now available, but publishing them remains complicated, won't we eventually need a completely different way of distributing software? Or maybe Google is right to make publishing harder 😂, precisely because AI is about to flood the world with millions of questionable slop apps? Curious what you think.
