Original Summary
Launched my email SaaS at the end of June. Anyone can use it and sign up on their own, there's a 7 day trial and customer's card gets charged automatically when it ends. In July and August I messaged around 80 people and offered them a free month. 10 of them took it and none of them connected a domain. By the end of September there were around 16 users, and only 1 person besides me had connected a domain and was actually using it. I had never talked to them before, they found it and signed up on their own. On Oct 2 their trial ended, the card got charged and that was my first $10 MRR. Before the trial ended I sent them a check-in email asking for any feedback and got no reply. So I don't know yet if they chose to pay or just didn't cancel. I'll probably find out when it renews at the start of November. In September I had written down Oct 31 as the date I'd kill the product if nobody paid, so for now I am still grinding. What I take from this is that the free month didn't help. I think the hard part for those 10 people was changing DNS on a domain they already use, and a free month does nothing about that. Next time I'll ask in the check-in what they used before and what made them try it, instead of asking for "any feedback". For those of you with trials that charge automatically, how do you tell the people who actively chose to pay from the ones who forgot to cancel? submitted by /u/decebaldecebal [link] [comments]
