Original Summary
I spend my days in the terminal, jumping between SSH servers, projects and a few AI agents, and the classic terminals started to feel a bit dated. So I built my own on top of Ghostty’s engine. Tabs can sit at the top or in a vertical sidebar, and each one gets its own name, colour and icon, so the prod tab or the database server stands out right away. Splits stay grouped inside their tab. And when a long command finishes or an agent like Claude Code is waiting for you, the tab lets you know. It also comes with command highlighting, suggestions from your history and a Tab completion menu, all ready out of the box with nothing to set up. Style-wise, it’s meant to feel more modern than traditional terminals. Translucent window, theme, font and plenty more, all changed in a couple of clicks... It’s free and open source. I’m a student so I can’t pay for Apple’s developer licence yet, which means macOS will ask you to allow it once in Privacy & Security the first time you open it. All the code is on GitHub if you want to check what it does. What would make you switch terminals to give mine a try? https://github.com/jeremy-prt/brume (brew install available) submitted by /u/CapitalSecret6471 [link] [comments]
