Original Summary

Hello folks, I'm a data scientist. I've spent most of my time in notebooks, working on heavy ML, DL, and statistical modeling. I had never deployed anything real or written much backend code. That started to bug me, so I built a small app end to end to learn. It's called BeenThere: https://joinbeenthere.com You write what you're stuck on, in your own words, any topic. It finds people who already got through something with the same meaning (even if they described it completely differently) and lets you ask them for help. If they say yes, you both get each other's email. Until then your email stays hidden. I know the AI part is the easy bit. Matching text by meaning is pretty much solved, so that's no moat. What I wanted to learn was everything around it: - a FastAPI backend, a Next.js frontend, and Neo4j as a knowledge graph - self-hosting on one Google Cloud VM: DNS, firewall, systemd, and Caddy for HTTPS - auth (Google + magic links), rate limits, block/report, and a deploy script It's live, but so far the only users are me and a few test accounts. I load tested it at around 150 requests a second, which honestly means very little until real people show up. So if you've got 2 minutes: Sign up Add one thing you've solved (a bug, a visa mess, a landlord fight, whatever) If you're stuck on something right now, add that too and see who it matches you with And if something breaks, please tell me how. That's kind of the whole point. I'll post a write-up later of what broke and how I fixed it. submitted by /u/Front_Entrance259 [link] [comments]
