Original Summary
Hey everyone, this is my first Chrome extension, so please bear with me. The story: I often sit at my PC doing stuff for work, and my wife sits next to me with her laptop doing stuff for hers. Since I have two monitors, I'm in charge of the music. I play a few songs, she throws in requests, you know how it goes. I mostly use YouTube instead of Spotify, because the selection of remixes, TV intros and other odd stuff is much bigger. What always bugged me: there's no background play in the browser, so while one song is running I couldn't pick the next one. two tabs worked, but hitting play at exactly the moment the old song ends got annoying fast. I searched for a solution and found nothing that fit, so I built TabGroove. It turns two normal YouTube tabs into deck A and deck B and gives you a small mixer in Chrome's side panel. While song 1 plays, you pick song 2 in the other tab (it stays paused as long as the other one is running), and in the background song 1 fades into song 2. You can set the fade time and let it fade automatically shortly before the song ends, or do it by hand if you enjoy that. A few things you might want to know: - It uses your regular YouTube tabs, so your login and Premium just work - No EQ, no beatmatching, no pile of settings. It does the fade and that's it - It's free and will stay free. No ads, no tracking, no account, and it doesn't collect anything - It's not in the Chrome Web Store (yet), so you load it as an unpacked extension. Takes about a minute, the readme walks you through it GitHub: https://github.com/rofldark/tabgroove As many of you can probably guess, AI was involved here. Opus 5.5 was a huge help in building this. I've been testing it for several hours a day over the past few days and haven't found any major bugs so far. Still, since it's my first one, I'm pretty sure there are bugs I haven't run into yet. If something breaks or feels off, I'd really appreciate a heads-up, ideally with a screenshot. Ideas are welcome too. Maybe someone else can use something like this. Thanks for reading! Oh, and btw: the volume of both tabs is adjusted automatically, so you don't get a shock when one song is louder than the other. Almost forgot :) submitted by /u/s4rr3 [link] [comments]
