Original Summary
I built this for myself because I wanted to dictate into any Windows app without my voice going to a cloud service. You hold a hotkey anywhere, talk, and release. It transcribes on your own PC with Whisper and types the text into whatever window has focus. No account, no subscription, and it works offline after a one-time model download. It started as a weekend script and kept growing. It now has a tray app with an installer, file import with .srt subtitle export, optional spoken commands like “scratch that” and “delete last sentence”, word replacements, and a history page. The core is open source (MIT), and there’s an optional $14 Pro upgrade that I don’t push. The hardest part wasn’t the speech recognition, it was real hardware. My Bluetooth headset made the default audio driver return near-silent recordings, forcing a standard sample rate crashed on some devices, and a corrupted cached model left one user stuck on “loading” forever. Almost every good fix came from someone telling me what broke. Where it stands after about a month: roughly 30 installs, 22 active in the last week, 16 GitHub stars, and one paid upgrade. Nearly all of it came from Reddit. What I’d like feedback on: the app itself (try it if you’re on Windows and tell me what’s confusing or broken), and whether leaning on the subtitle feature as the main hook would make sense.
