Original Summary
I've had a few older cars that I work on as a hobby. The wrenching was the fun part, what wasn't fun was searching for the right part number for my exact model, then opening several shop tabs to see who has it and for how much, then losing track of what I'd already bought for which car. So I built Patina, one place per car, with the part searching built in. You can add your car by picking make, model and engine from a list. Search for parts by part number or in plain words like "brake pads". It opens many parts shops at once, with your car's make and model added to the search, grouped by region (worldwide, EU). You can save the parts you need to the car, add prices from different shops and see the cheapest. A shopping list across all your cars shows what's left to buy. Mark parts bought with the price and a photo of the receipt and see what each car has cost so far. Service reminders by km or months, with an email when something is due. A service history you can share with a buyer or mechanic as a read-only link (with or without prices). When someone buys a part for a specific model, the part number is remembered, so the next person with the same car sees "bought for this car" before they start googling. It doesn't have a real parts catalogue that tells you "this is the right part for your car". The licensed catalogue data costs a few hundred euros a month and up. The free APIs I found weren't licensed for commercial use so I left them out. For now it saves the shop-hopping and remembers what worked, but the research part is still on the user. The site is free for up to 2 cars with everything included. 15 €/month for more. What I'd love feedback on: If you work on your own cars: how do you find the correct part number today? Dealer, forums, catalogue sites? That's the problem I want to solve next. Is the landing page clear about what this is within 10 seconds? Anything confusing in the first 5 minutes after signing up? patinaservice.com submitted by /u/Dirt_Nasty [link] [comments]
