Original Summary

At some point you pasted something into AI and thought “hmm... that probably shouldn’t have gone in there.” A screenshot of a group chat. A friend’s message about their breakup. A doctor’s letter. Your rental contract, full address and all. It’s just so convenient to let AI read it and figure it out for you. For me it was a client’s email. I wanted a quick reply, so I copied the whole thing in. Name, phone number, everything. I hit enter, and only then it hit me: that wasn’t mine to share. And I couldn’t take it back. I didn’t want to stop using AI. I just wanted the personal bits to stay with me. So I started building something for myself: a small browser extension that swaps names, numbers and addresses for things like [PERSON_1] before anything gets sent. The AI only ever sees the placeholders, and when the answer comes back, the real details show up again on my screen. That’s what you see in the video. I called it Kamelo, bcs of Chameleon lol It runs on your own computer, and I made it open source, because “trust me” isn’t good enough for something like this. It still misses things sometimes, unusual names mostly, and it can’t handle files yet. Also, why should anyone care about Kamelo? Honestly, if you just use AI for ideas now and then, maybe you don’t. I didn’t think I needed it either, until that one email. So I’m curious: what’s the thing you pasted into AI that you probably shouldn’t have? This is still very much a one-person project. If you want to see where it goes (or tell me where I’m getting it wrong), I’m sharing the whole journey. And if you want to test Kamelo, It's only available for Microsoft Edge at the moment, but it's coming to chrome and firefox as well.
