Original Summary

Hey r/SideProject , I'm a solo founder. Every language app I tried had the same problem: lots of tapping, almost no talking. You can do a 300-day streak and still freeze when someone asks you a question in Spanish. So I built Bliss. You pick a language and a tutor, the tutor calls you, and you just talk. What it does: - Real voice conversations about everyday situations (ordering food, travel, small talk, meeting people) - Role-plays: describe any situation and the tutor plays the other person - Pronunciation feedback: repeat a phrase and it tells you what to fix - Adapts to your level, from total beginner (A0) to B2 - 13 languages: Spanish, French, English, Mandarin, Italian, German, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hebrew, Dutch, Russian - Every tutor can teach every language, and you can switch tutors live How it's built (for the curious): - React Native / Expo, iOS for now - Natural voices with ElevenLabs, one native voice per language - Video avatar synced to the voice - Speech-to-text + a separate pronunciation-scoring step for the "repeat after me" part - The hardest part by far: latency. A tutor that takes 5 seconds to answer kills the "real call" feeling. Still fighting that one. Pricing, upfront so nobody feels tricked: there's a free tier (3 short sessions a day) and a paid plan for unlimited practice. The price is shown before you pay, no surprise. What I'd love feedback on: Does the conversation pace feel natural or too slow? Are the corrections useful or annoying? If you've quit other language apps, what made you quit? iOS: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6812111788 I read every comment. Be brutal. submitted by /u/Longjumping_Wheel467 [link] [comments]
