Original Summary
Spent the last few weeks figuring out organic growth for B2B SaaS selling to SMB. Argued with Claude about it, tested the logic, wrote the whole thing up. here is the distilled version. First, most organic playbooks fail because they skip diagnosis. Before you write a single page, figure out if your category even has demand to capture. Four tests that matter. Does the category term get real search volume on its own. Does it rival the biggest brand in volume, or does the brand dwarf it. do "X alternatives" and "X vs Y" searches exist. Can you say the category name to a prospect without explaining it. If those say no, you are not doing SEO, you are doing demand creation, and no amount of blog posts will fix that. Second, forget head terms. you are not outranking the incumbents for the big keyword. Not this year, probably not ever. The game is long tail, bottom of funnel, and the third party pages where buyers actually compare. Your money pages are comparisons, alternatives, use case pages, integration pages, templates. One page per intent. Most teams underinvest here and overproduce blog posts. That is backwards. Third, the blog is dead as a traffic engine. AI overviews answer the informational stuff in place now. The blog's new job is publishing things an AI answer has to cite you for. Filter before writing anything. Would an AI answer fully satisfy this searcher without a click. Do we have something nobody else has, data, experience, a real opinion. Does it lead to a measurable action. If yes to the first and no to the other two, do not write it. Fourth, the highest leverage stuff is not even on your site. When someone asks ChatGPT for the best tool in your category, the answer comes from G2, Capterra, listicles, and Reddit threads. So run your 20 most valuable prompts through the AI tools, see which pages get cited, and make those pages your outreach list. Review velocity matters more than your listing existing. Fifth, measure the right things or you will optimize for vanity. Organic signups, not sessions. signup to paid by landing page. Prompt level share of voice in AI answers. AI referrer traffic. Review velocity. If money pages rank but do not convert, that is a CRO problem, not a traffic problem. If AI cites competitors but not you, that is an entity and mentions gap. Sessions on informational content will keep falling even when the strategy is working, so stop judging the blog by sessions. Last thing. Some of this does not scale and that is fine. Real reddit participation, honest comparison pages, original data, partner relationships. Automate the keyword mapping, the briefs, the rank tracking, the citation audits. keep humans on the parts that need judgment and credibility. I have the full 14 page sop written up if anyone wants it. Happy to share. submitted by /u/greensranger [link] [comments]
