Original Summary
9 PM, on the sofa, opening Slack. Again. No one had messaged me. It was pure muscle memory: phone in hand, thumb on Slack before I'd even thought about it. Turning off notifications did nothing, because I wasn't being pulled in. I was walking in. So I wanted a door that locks, but only for work apps. Everything else on my phone should carry on as normal. That became Out of Office . You pick which apps count as work, tell it when your workday ends, and those apps stay closed until morning. Open one anyway and you get this: Go touch grass, there is nothing here. OOO until tomorrow. Why i built this: It only knows “work” and “not work”. No daily time budgets, streaks or scores. It’s a boundary, not a diet. To clearly draw boundaries Widgets. Your Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets turn green when you’re out, with a countdown to when work comes back. Tap the Home Screen one to flip it on or off. Honestly, it’s the part I look at most. Leaving early on a Friday? Turn it on for an hour, until 9 am, or all weekend. Something actually on fire? End early. Designed for least resistance to form a habit Vacations. Set a date range and your work apps stay shut until the morning you’re back. App Store Download Link Website is also now live (try it has a very cool animation too :D) https://getoutofoffice.app/ Six weeks of daily use and a lot of small tweaks later, I'm happy with it, but I'm too close to it now. Please be blunt. Anything that feels off, I want to hear it. submitted by /u/socalldengineer [link] [comments]
