Original Summary
My Background: I started a company in the electronic payments space in my early 20s (15 or so years ago) that grew to be pretty big. Not massively big, but big enough to where I never have to personally worry about money. I posted an AMA that was quite popular in the small business forum a few years ago if anybody feels like reading it. Anyway, I had a web meeting with a random person a year ago and Fathom sent me a recap of the meeting. It was my first experience with that kind of product and I thought it was awesome. However, I literally NEVER do online meetings unless somebody specifically wants that format. The vast majority of my time is spent on phone calls. I basically live on the phone. My Problem: As soon as I saw the output of Fathom I started looking for a mobile / desk phone solution that would give me the same type of output. I wanted to buy it for my own use. I was not able to find anything. There are a few companies (like Dialpad) that have a solution but it was not what I was really looking for. I wanted a mobile first solution that would record, transcribe, summarize, pull out tasks, analytics, etc. for both incoming and outgoing calls without making a recording announcement (my business is located and does business in a one party consent state). Recording announcement is ON by default but you control it in the settings menu. The Work: I decided to give vibe coding a go. I became completely addicted. When it comes to work, I am extremely obsessive so for the past 10 months I have spent basically every waking hour building Epocra, mostly using Claude. 10 hours a day, 7 days a week is not an exageration. The AI part turned out to be the easy part. Transcription and summarization are solved problems now. The hard part was the phone. A mobile phone call is nothing like a web meeting. iOS and Android actively fight you. So the only way to do it was to build the phone side myself: the app is a full dialer that runs on my own telephony stack, calls are recorded server side. This was INCREDIBLY difficult. Far more difficult than building an electronic payments business. At first I was really concerned that the window wont not stay open long since there are so damn many of these AI transcription companies. However, even after 10 months of work, there are basically no serious players for mobile first solutions. I think the barrier of entry for building your own telephony stack is enormous. What Epocra does: You get a business number in the app and use it like your normal phone. Minutes after you hang up you get the transcript organized by speaker, a summary with the key points and next steps, tasks pulled out automatically, and you can ask it questions across every call you've ever had. There's a desktop app and web portal too, but it's mobile first because that's where the calls are. One thing that was really important to me is having the same caller ID when I call out. I didnt want people to get phone calls from a random
