Hey everyone! I've been building bytemail , a native email app for Mac written in Swift, and it just came out of beta. It's now on 1.3. Why I built it: most "smart" email apps send your mail through their own servers to power features like categories, search and AI summaries. I didn't like a startup holding a copy of my inbox, so I wanted to see how far I could get doing all of it on the Mac itself. Turns out pretty far. bytemail connects straight to your provider (Gmail, iCloud, Outlook, Yahoo or any IMAP account). There's no backend in the mail path and no bytemail account to create. Search, categories, rules and summaries all run on your machine. What it does: Conversations read like chat. Quoted history and signatures fold away, whichever app the sender used, so you just see what's new. Everything is one click away under •••. Copy sign-in codes straight from the notification , without opening the email. Phishing and look-alike domain warnings. "paypa1.com" gets flagged. Tracking pixels stripped from every message. Undo Send, Send Later, snooze and follow-up reminders Rules and one-click unsubscribe Primary / Updates / Promos tabs , and you choose which one the inbox opens on. HTML signatures with a live preview, and Send Again to resend any sent message as a new one. iCloud sync for accounts, signatures, templates, rules and settings across your Macs. Mail and passwords never leave each Mac. Dark mode , keyboard shortcuts for everything (shown right in the right-click menu), and a delete confirmation you can turn off. On macOS 26 with Apple Intelligence: thread summaries and suggested replies that learn your writing style, all on-device. Pricing: $3.99/month or $39.90/year with a 7-day free trial, or a lifetime licence. One licence covers 3 Macs. Requires macOS 14 or later. I ship updates almost daily right now: 1.3.1 went out today and fixes Gmail replies that repeated the whole thread under the signature. I'd really love feedback, especially from people who've bounced off Apple Mail, Spark, Superhuman or similar.
