Original Summary
I have been building Hémicycle on nights and weekends (with Fable 5.1): a collectible card game where every card is a real French parliamentarian. 12,428 cards, 5,277 people, 26 sets — 17 legislatures of the National Assembly, 8 periods of the Senate, and a "Panthéon" set of ministers and presidents who never held a seat. The part I care about: nothing on a card is invented. The six stats are percentiles computed from open data (attendance, amendments, speeches, written questions) published by the Assembly, the Senate and NosDéputés. Cards from the early legislatures, where no activity data exists, are explicitly flagged as estimated rather than silently faked. Rarity comes from longevity and activity, never from opinions, and every political family is treated by the same formula — that part is not negotiable in a project about politicians. What you actually do with it: open a free booster every day, watch your collection fill an hemicycle (one seat per card, sorted left to right by political family) and a map of France by constituency. Each era has its own card skin — silver-halide black and white for 1958, Minitel green for the 80s, burgundy velvet for the Senate. Then there are turn-based séances against the AI or against other players (Elo, friend challenges, deck sharing by code), trades, public showcases you can like, and a vote of the day: a real historical vote comes back to the chamber, you send one deputy from your collection to vote for or against, and at midnight you discover what Parliament actually did. The questions are institutional or procedural on purpose — the 1958 Constitution, the five-year presidential term, the single parliamentary session — never anything where a "no" would read as a judgement about a group of people. Free, no ads, no account required to play (a recovery code is enough), no data resold. It costs me under €10 a month on a 4 GB VPS. Stack for the curious: Next.js 16, React 19, Prisma on Postgres, a Python pipeline (Wikidata SPARQL, Wikimedia Commons, rembg cutouts) that produced 7,773 portraits, and zero audio files — every sound is synthesised in WebAudio. What I would love feedback on: (1) retention — the daily booster and the daily vote are my only two return hooks, what else works for you? (2) monetisation — I intend cosmetics only (card backs, hemicycle themes), never selling a person's face; is that viable or naive? (3) the first 30 seconds — you land, you open a pack, you see cards, no signup wall; tell me where you got lost. Hémicycle Le jeu submitted by /u/maladifouille [link] [comments]
