Original Summary

Tastewave is a free DJ-anchored music discovery platform that I built. It lets you find songs that are similar to what a DJ has played in their sets. It combines real set data with a third-party audio similarity engine to surface songs that sound like what a DJ has played. Recommendations are not endorsements by the artists themselves, rather an extrapolation of their taste. As a DJ myself, I found it challenging to dive into a specific DJ's sound on the traditional streaming platforms or by scrolling through seemingly endless catalogues like Beatport. If you've relied on the streaming platforms for finding new electronic music, you may have experienced that recommendations often feel off. My understanding is that they rely on guessing what you might like next based on your listener profile and I wanted a more precise way to explore a DJ's sound that you already trust. Also I found it difficult to understand what DJ's are associated with what labels outside of the tracks they release on said labels or by "following that scene", so I use the set data to surface insights in the platform as well.
