Original Summary
I wanted a game where you guess what things actually cost abroad, so I built one: priceguessr.eu How it works under the hood: Data: weekly importers pull average prices from national statistics offices (US, UK, Czechia, Canada, Japan, Poland, Ireland, NZ, Singapore, Malaysia…) plus Open Prices, fuel from the EU Oil Bulletin and the Big Mac index. Stack: Next.js on Vercel, Supabase (Postgres, Auth, Realtime for multiplayer). Anti-cheat: the real price never reaches the browser until you've guessed. All scoring runs inside Postgres functions. Fair scoring: points are based on relative error, so cheap and expensive items count the same. Surprising lesson: a lot of countries don't publish actual prices at all. Germany only releases price indices , so there's no "average price of bread in Germany" you can use. Happy to answer questions about the data pipeline. Feedback welcome! submitted by /u/Intrepid_Garbage2809 [link] [comments]
