Original Summary
When I started building my own web products 3 months ago...I had thought that since I could ship fast, six of them would be EASIER. Boy was I wrong! Here is the timeline, and what each stretch of it cost me. Month 1: [Six products, no audience] Built and shipped 6 small web products, one after another. From AI wrapper to small tool. Learning: shipping fast is not the same thing as building something people want. Month 2: [200 signups, $0] Ran SEO, GEO, social media, and a small paid ads test. $10 per day. 200 people signed up across all 6 products. 0 of them paid. Learning: distribution is the make or break, and I was treating it like an afterthought. Month 3: [The only channel where people talked back] Reddit was the one place where strangers replied instead of scrolling past. It also turned out to be the only channel where I had a real pain point of my own. Four things kept eating me there. I could not work out which communities were even relevant, and I needed 5-10 of them, not one. Nobody told me every sub runs on its own rules, so posts just vanished and I never got a reason. Every community has its own running jokes and hot topics, and in this sub that means someone regularly roasting founder posts that are really just ads. I read those for weeks without understanding what they were actually saying. And the hardest one, I had no idea how to find real customer needs instead of guessing at them. So instead of doubling down on channels that never converted, I started building for myself. A reddit marketing, whatever annoyed me, I changed it. Now: [Karmit] It is the thing I wanted back in month 3. It tells you what a subreddit is really like before you post in it. The rules, the culture, what gets upvoted and what gets pulled. Still tiny, still $0. But 0 paying customers is no longer a mystery to me. I know what the missing piece was, and for the first time in 3 months I am fixing that instead of shipping around it. I actually like where the product sits right now, which is new for me. Writing this down so I don't repeat it, and in case someone is on the same stretch. submitted by /u/seekworld [link] [comments]
