Original Summary
Hi everyone, I like running lots of coding agents simultaneously on lots and lots of side (and real) projects; but there's a lot of real problems with doing this. Namely: It's insecure as heck running things directly on your host in any form of allow-all mode If you've got a bunch of separate coding subscriptions trying to balance (and drain) each subscription before the next weekly reset can be a chore Most importantly of all, AI isn't deterministic, you have to go and look (or at least instruct an agent to look) every time a task is completed to see if it left the codebase in a worse state than when it found it. So. I've been attempting over the last year to try automate a lot of these problems - and I think I've come up with something that is both a new take on the IDE, and a way to try bring real process determinism to automated programming; basically taking all the lessons I have learnt running programming teams (and programming myself) over the last 25 years, and seeing if I can write a series of hard gates and softer rules which force agents to constantly check their work against 'known good' standards, in the same way I'd review and coach a junior or mid-tier developer. It also does a whole bunch of other things - it balances work across multiple coding subscriptions, it tracks dependant tasks - and lets you queue up multi-step plans that execute in the right sequence. It's designed to be mostly-secure-by-default, running work in throwaway VMs (to limit the damage that a APT could do if it was installed by an agent accidentally) with optional hard firewalls, with each stage passing hard, scoped boundaries that make them easy to subject to deterministic (when possible) analysis. I've been running it for about 6 months now using about two dozen AI models across nearly 1,000 tasks (over 600 were improvements to CodeyBox itself - it's mostly been authored using its own pipeline); and I've found it pretty damn useful, so I thought I'd try share it a bit. It's MIT licensed, built in clean cross-platform C#/.NET and designed to make it so you can really walk away - only having to look at or analyse the final result (and even that I suspect is becoming unnecessary). It's also designed to be extremely extensible - I've written about 80-ish plugins for it now, which let you plug in additional auditors, sandboxes, notification systems and more.
