Original Summary

I’m currently building a tool that automatically translates and dubs long-form English videos into Japanese. The basic workflow is: Import an English video Transcribe the English speech Detect and separate different speakers Translate the dialogue from English into natural Japanese while preserving the original meaning and context Generate Japanese voices for each speaker Automatically fit the Japanese speech back into the original timeline Export the Japanese-dubbed video A big part of what I’m working on is making the result feel like natural Japanese dubbing rather than simply doing transcription → translation → TTS. For example, I’m trying to solve problems like: Keeping different speakers correctly separated Preserving short interjections and conversational timing Avoiding overlapping or cut-off speech Making the Japanese sound natural when spoken rather than like a literal translation Handling the difference in sentence length between English and Japanese without aggressively speeding up the audio I’m now trying to figure out whether this is worth turning into a commercial product rather than just continuing it as a personal project. I’m especially curious about three things: Who do you think would actually pay for this? Creators trying to reach a Japanese audience? Podcasters? Media companies? Localization agencies? Online course creators? Companies with large libraries of English video content? Someone else? What would you realistically expect to pay? Would pricing make more sense as a monthly subscription, per hour of video, credits, or something else? And roughly how much would feel reasonable? Is English → Japanese video localization actually a painful enough problem that people would pay to solve it? Or has AI dubbing already become too commoditized for a standalone product like this to have much value? I’m not really looking for encouragement. If the business case is weak, I’d rather find that out now before investing a lot more time into it. If you work with video localization, YouTube, podcasts, online courses, or international content, I’d especially love to know: How do you currently localize English video content for Japanese audiences, and what’s the most expensive or frustrating part of the process? submitted by /u/nuvrek_42 [link] [comments]
