Original Summary
I was trying to understand what could make a “fast mode” faster, and batching was the part I couldn’t picture. So I built a tiny interactive lesson. Follow one request into a server, then choose: start now, or wait briefly for other requests to join. Replay the same arrivals with the other choice and compare who finishes when. The trade-off I wanted to make visible: getting my result sooner isn’t always the same as finishing everyone’s work sooner. It’s a simplified simulation, not a benchmark or a reconstruction of any provider’s Fast Mode. Free to try, no sign-up. Try it: https://lishehao.github.io/batch-lab/ After the two runs, is it clear why the best choice for request A can differ from the best choice for the whole group? submitted by /u/Shehao [link] [comments]
