Original Summary

ok so this started because i got annoyed at how much international sms costs when your users are in egypt and the gulf every otp feels like paying a toll and half the small shops i know have a spare phone in a drawer with a cheap local sim bundle that barely gets used so i built a little android app that turns that phone into the sender the backend queues the message and the phone sends it through its own sim thought it would be a weekend hack and it turned into way more than that the sending part was the easy bit the annoying part was making sure two workers dont grab the same phone at the same moment i broke it like four times before i let the database handle the locking and the thing that still bugs me the phone sends a message then loses wifi for a minute and never tells the backend so the backend retries and someone gets their otp twice i added an unknown state instead of guessing but i dont know if thats the right call still early and a bit rough has anyone tried something like this or would you never trust a sim route for otps and only use it for notifications be blunt i can take it submitted by /u/AbdelrhmanDev [link] [comments]
