Original Summary
A vibe-coded app can have better code. A vibe-coded app can have more features. A vibe-coded app doesn't know your customer. Someone can have an idea in the morning, vibe-code it by evening, and launch it tomorrow. So naturally, people started saying that SaaS is dead. Why would anyone pay for software when they can just build it themselves? Because building the software was never the hardest part of SaaS. The hard part was always everything around it. The SaaS product that has been in the market for 5 years has: → Earned trust → Built distribution → Built a sales process → Talked to thousands of users → Figured out what makes people stay → Collected years of customer feedback → Learned which features people actually use → Seen the same problem from 100 different angles A vibe-coded app has none of that on day one. It might have better code and/or more features. But it doesn't have the accumulated knowledge of the business it is trying to replace. And that's the part founders should pay attention to. AI is reducing the cost of building software. That means software itself is becoming less defensible. Your moat can't simply be: "We built great products" Because someone else can build something similar next week. The moat inevitably becomes: → We know exactly who has it. → We know how to reach them. → We know how they describe it. → We know what makes them switch. → We know where they look for solutions. → We understand this problem better than anyone else. That's why I don't think AI eliminates SaaS. I think it eliminates SaaS companies that confuse having software with having a business. The next generation of first-time SaaS founders will win because they can understand the customers better. If you started your SaaS today, what would you do differently about distribution? submitted by /u/bydaveyji [link] [comments]
