I've been building VoxScribe a Windows dictation app. Hold a hotkey F9 by default, talk, release, and the text is typed into whatever window has focus. Whisper runs locally, so your audio never leaves your PC. It's free and open source MIT with an optional paid Pro tier. I wanted something that works offline and that I can fix myself. Most of the work was fixing things that broke on real hardware. First a Bluetooth headset gave almost no signal, because the default audio driver was the wrong one. Switching to WASAPI and recording at the device's own sample rate fixed it. Second my automatic speech detection was unreliable. On quiet mics it missed speech and triggered on noise so Whisper invented text. I replaced it with plain hold to talk. Third text came out scrambled in web chat boxes because I typed too fast. A tiny per character delay fixed it. Fourth Windows Defender flagged the installer. UPX packing caused a false positive, and turning it off fixed it. It also has spoken commands for punctuation, scratch that to undo, and delete last word. I'd like feedback on a few things. How accurate is it with your accent and mic? Which apps does typing fail in? Which voice commands are missing? Would you want a Mac or Linux version?
