Original Summary
I am a millennial homeowner. As someone who is generally well-organized in other areas of my life, I found that keeping information about my home organized was much more overwhelming. I always though how nice it would be to have a centralized list of all my exact appliances (with relevant manuals), rooms (with paint/floor info) and service/maintenance records (linked to the specific appliance/room); but the process of creating that list always seemed so tedious. I wanted a way to take a picture of an appliance label or upload a service invoice and have the useful information organized for me. That is what I've been building with my app (yes, there is no finalized name yet). For example, you can take a photo of an HVAC unit, water heater, refrigerator, or other appliance label. My app uses AI to pull out details such as the manufacturer, model number, serial number, and manufacture date, and then locate and link relevant manuals and product documentation. If the label is incomplete, it can use the available clues to research the missing details. You can also upload a service invoice. The app reads the invoice and proposes a service record with the work performed, service date, company, invoice number, and cost. The other major feature is an AI chat that uses the information you have saved about your own home. You can ask questions such as: What size HVAC filter do I need? When was my water heater last serviced? How much have I spent on maintenance this year? What maintenance should I anticipate this quarter? Create a reminder to replace this filter in three months. The chat can use your appliance details, service history, invoices, manuals, saved parts, rooms, documents, and maintenance tasks as context. It is still an early alpha, and I need feedback from regular homeowners. I'm looking for about 5-10 homeowners who would be willing to: Create a home Add an appliance by photographing its equipment label Review the information extracted from the photo Upload a test invoice or document Ask the chat a few questions about the records they added The main things I want to learn are: Did the photo upload save you time? Were the extracted details accurate? Was the review process clear? Did the chat give useful answers based on your records? Where did you get confused? * Would you continue using something like this? If you own a home and are interested, leave a comment or send me a message. I'll send you the link and activation phrase. Honest criticism is welcome! submitted by /u/MattTheBrave [link] [comments]
