Original Summary

I'm at that stage in a project where I've been pretty much the only person looking at it and need some external feedback. The idea is to get people outside on a small doable walking "adventure" The core concept is that the "normal" solar system models are wildly not to scale. Often people talk about how if the sun was XX Landmark the earth would be YY distance away, but for most people, the single reference point and arbitrary distance don't really mean anything. Originally I just mapped this out as something I wanted to do for myself, maybe make a fun blog post and or YouTube video and then move on with my life, but scope creep crept and now it's a much bigger (and much more sharable) project. What it currently is, is a physical "wallet" card sized like a credit card, when you scan a QR code on the back, it looks at your GPS location and sees where the nearest city "mission" is. If you're near one it'll point you at the nearest "official" (right now it's only NYC , Philly, and Chicago) mission which are just ones that I have gone on myself. If you aren't near one, it'll prompt you to create a local one. When you're on a mission, you choose a "sun" object and size. From that the other planets distances and scales are a simple math equation. you can then set these distances to landmarks near the orbits. Once it's time for a mission, you scan the card, and it gives you directions to the planets in sequence, when you scan the same card while at one of the landmarks it pulls up an AR scale model of the planet at the correct size. so you can see how far from where you started, and the actual size of the planet. I've done 4 unique walks so far and they've been fantastic little adventures. The idea with the credit card sized card is that you can leave it in your wallet and basically forget about it, and if you find yourself in a city or area you don't actually know that well you can pull out the card and see if there's a small little mission you can go on for the day. My eventual goal is to use some of the funds to hire artists from the cities the missions are in and commission postcards for people who have completed a mission there. Here is a quick "crash course" video on the basic functionality https://youtu.be/i1x_fJ84qVQ?si=K-wE6ivpG_0sl-Dy I would love some feedback/criticism ideas on how to market/get this in front of potential buyers. I am very much an engineer with no marketing plan, I just thought it was a cool idea and made it real submitted by /u/rkelly155 [link] [comments]
