Original Summary
I’ve been building a small project called The Zoomist.
The idea is to take ordinary things that we normally see or hear without thinking about them, and change the scale or attention.
Sometimes that means microscope or macro footage. Sometimes slow motion or extreme close-ups. Sometimes it’s simply recording an everyday sound very closely and listening to its texture.
A piece of fabric, a fig, a fingernail, a toothbrush, an insect, running water, a motor - familiar things can become surprisingly unfamiliar when you get closer.
I’m trying to keep the footage and sound as authentic as possible. I don’t want to turn everything into “science content” or generic ASMR, and when I’m not certain what I’m looking at under the microscope, I’d rather say that than make up an identification.
The project is basically built around one observation:
“I’ve seen this before, but I’ve never actually seen it.”
I’ve been publishing the experiments here:
https://www.youtube.com/@TheZoomist
I’d be interested to hear what ordinary things you would want to look at or listen to more closely.
