Original Summary
My friend codes almost entirely with AI agents. The agent says "Done!", he says "cool", and he has no idea what happened in between: which files changed, what failed, what got retried. So I built dotpals: a small animated pal that sits on your desktop and tells you in plain words what your coding agent is doing. What it shows: - A story of each request: "Changed 3 files", "Tests failed", "Fixed on try 2" - Retries: if a step fails and the agent tries again, it links them, so "still failing after 3 tries" can't hide behind a "Done" - When the agent needs your approval, the pal asks you (you can approve from the pal) - A notch at the top of the screen with all your running agents and their usage limits Works with Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, OpenCode, Copilot CLI, or any agent that can send JSON. Everything runs on your computer. No account, no API key, nothing sent anywhere. Free and open source (MIT): https://github.com/Rikinshah787/dotpals It's day one, so I'd really like honest feedback: what's confusing, what's missing, what would make you actually keep it open? submitted by /u/Mammoth-Check1324 [link] [comments]
