I think I’ve been approaching things the wrong way from the very beginning. And now that I’m watching yet another app of mine fail, I’m finally starting to realize it. And honestly, I think that’s a good thing. I guess, like many people building software from their bedrooms, I got fascinated by the idea of creating something big . Something that could change the world, or at least a small part of it, but can you really build something that changes the world if you don’t have a broad perspective of it in the first place? Maybe the whole point is actually much simpler: build something small that solves a very specific problem. Something useful. Something that, if enough people adopt it, could eventually become something much bigger. Without assuming that it has to happen. I think that’s where I kept falling into the perfectionism trap, whenever something doesn’t work, my first instinct is to think: it needs to be better. Another feature. A better UI. A smarter algorithm. A more polished experience. But the reality is that, very often, the solution to a problem doesn’t require that much technology. Sometimes it can be solved with a simple approach and a few hours of work. This failure taught me something I find quite interesting, and it’s something I want to keep in mind moving forward, and weirdly enough, I think it brought me even closer to what I actually want to achieve. PS: This is just a rough thought I pulled out of my MacBook notes. It’s definitely not meant to be some universal truth. I’m still figuring this stuff out, and I’d genuinely like to hear how other indie hackers and founders see it, maybe there’s something I’m missing.
