Original Summary
I build small iOS subscription apps on the side. The best marketing in them isn't a feature list. It's the user's own data. TL;DR: show people a number about themselves right before the paywall, and send non-payers a daily local notification with their own data. Two examples below: 1. The "aha" screen before the paywall Rizen is an alarm you can't snooze. The onboarding asks how often you oversleep, how it affects you, and how much you earn. Then it shows you the cost: 30 minutes of snoozing a day is about 180 hours a year. Not sleep, not work. Then what those hours are worth in money, using your own number. Steady is a stress and burnout app. It reads the last 28 days from Apple Health and shows exactly when you were stressed and how that affected your sleep. Then the moment where a nudge could have helped. Then the paywall. A feature list is about your app. A result from their own answers is about them. 2. The win-back notification Obviously, most people close the paywall. For them, Steady sends one local notification a day with a daily summary: "You had a stress spike at 2:15 PM today. Steady could've helped you right when it happened." One tap opens the paywall. It's local, so there's no server involved. It shows exactly what they missed, at the moment they care. Both ideas come from a video I made about 21 things I now set up from day one on every app (it's my own channel). Question for you: as a user, does a notification like that feel helpful or pushy? Where would you draw the line? submitted by /u/EfficientLetter3654 [link] [comments]
